Formal Parklet Program Concept Dies

The Sturgeon Bay Community Protection and Services Committee did not take any action last week to create a parklet program that would have allowed local businesses to expand their operations into parking spaces along several streets in Sturgeon Bay. The committee referred instead to the Common Council’s decision, also made last week, to agree to extend sidewalk cafes to allow more space for local businesses.

The committee noted that individual restaurants or businesses can still apply for parklets under the city’s current ordinance; there just won’t be any specific guidelines or procedures. Such applications would be handled on a case-by-case basis this year.
