Foul Play Not Suspected in Clark Lake Drowning

A 24-year-old Madison man died from what appeared to be an accidental drowning on Saturday, June 26, at Clark Lake in the Town of Sevastopol. Foul play is not suspected in the death of Yeltsin C. Jean-Pierre, according to the Door County Sheriff’s Office.

An autopsy was conducted June 27, but the results were not known by this newspaper’s deadline, and the medical examiner’s final report will not be available for at least six weeks.

Dispatch sent emergency responders to Clark Lake near 5257 Grady Road at 7:59 pm Saturday to assist a person in distress in the water. Search efforts began as emergency responders arrived on the scene. At 8:37 pm, Jean-Pierre was recovered from the water unresponsive. He was transported by ambulance to the Door County Medical Center and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Chief Deputy Patrick McCarty said in a statement that no other information is available at this time as the incident remains under investigation.

The emergency effort drew units from the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Jacksonport Fire Department, Door County Emergency Services Department and Door County Sheriff’s Office. The multi-jurisdictional Door County Dive Team also responded, as did the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin State Patrol.
