Four Students Receive United Way Scholarship

United Way of Door County announces the four recipients of its scholarship program – Brandi Hernandez, Southern Door; Jordann Starr and David VanDreese, Sturgeon Bay; and Andrew Munao, Washington Island. Scholarships are given to students on the basis of their community involvement through volunteering, rather than based on academic or athletic achievement.

Hernandez has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Door County, Third Avenue Playhouse, and served on Student Council and the English as a Second Language program at Southern Door.

Starr has volunteered at Sunshine House for four years and coached volleyball to grade school and middle school children at the Door County YMCA.

VanDreese volunteered extensively with his church on mission trips and organizing sessions for the youth who also attend Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church.

Munao was introduced to service through attending his church on the island. He participated in two mission trips and also was a member of the Student Council, Project 180 and blood/food/clothing drives throughout his high school career.
