Fourth of July in Gills Rock

As tradition has it, the Fourth of July promises to be a fun-filled day in Gills Rock with events planned throughout the day leading up to fireworks at dusk.

Before the fireworks fill up the sky, activities will center on the town park and the adjacent Door County Maritime Museum.

The museum will be open from 10 am to 6 pm and features new exhibits coupled with advanced interactive technology to enhance the museum experience. Patricia Skalka, author of the newly released mystery Death at Gills Rock, will be on hand for a booking reading/signing from 2 – 3 pm.

There is plenty of music planned leading up to the fireworks. Katie Dahl will perform a lawn concert from 3 – 5 pm. The depth and power of Dahl’s alto voice, the literate candor of her original songs, and the easy humor of her live performances have earned her numerous songwriting awards.

Considered by many to be Wisconsin’s premiere Dixieland jazz band, The River City Six will perform from 6 – 9 pm. It’s just part of the fun that also includes a fun and unique boat regatta. And, of course, there’s plenty of refreshments with all proceeds benefiting Gills Rock nonprofit groups, including the Door County Maritime Museum.
