A Door County artist recently had his work featured in a juried art show in Denver, Colorado. Walt Freckmann, an abstract expressionist painter who lives just north of Sturgeon Bay, submitted a 30”x 40” acrylic on canvas piece titled “Revelation #1” to the Core Gallery, located in the heart of Denver’s well-known Santa Fe art district.

Freckmann’s piece appeared in the gallery’s annual W.O.W. (Wide Open Whatever!) Show, which incorporated two- and three-dimensional works from approximately 70 artists. This year’s exhibition ran from April 15 through May 2.

The not-for-profit Core Gallery provides a dynamic, independent venue for contemporary artists to display their work, and it is dedicated to fostering personal growth, communication and a sense of community among artists and art enthusiasts alike.

“I was pleased to have ‘Revelation #1’ accepted into the W.O.W. Show,” said Freckmann, who traveled to Denver with his wife, Pat, for the opening reception. “The gallery has 25 years of history behind it, and it has a strong, loyal following. It was an honor to have my work displayed in such a unique, vibrant setting.”
