Fred Viste Joins Whitefish Dunes Staff

Fred Viste

Whitefish Dunes is happy to welcome Park Manager Fred Viste to the park. Originally from Green Bay, Viste attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point where he majored in Forest Recreation with a minor in Law Enforcement. He also has credits in Urban Forestry.

Viste was a seasonal Ranger for Potawatomi State Park and Whitefish Dunes State Parks from 2005 – 2007. He then became a full time Ranger in 2008 at Peninsula State Park. He almost became an employee in the suburbs of Chicago as a tree specialist using his education in Urban Forestry but received a phone call with the invitation to work for the Wisconsin DNR just days before taking the job in Illinois. In 2010 he became the full time Ranger and Assistant Park Manager at Hartman Creek in Waupaca. He worked there until 2014 when he took the new position as Park Manager at Whitefish Dunes.

Viste’s vision for the park is that of a naturalist/public relations ambassador. He wants to see visitors enjoy the outdoor recreation opportunities that the park has to offer while maintaining and protecting the natural beauty and wildlife of the area.
