Free Limburger and Aged Brick Samples at Wisconsin Cheese Masters’s Stinkfest

Wisconsin Cheese Masters will present the second annual “Stinkfest” on Sept. 24, 1 – 3 pm. This outdoor event will feature free samples of the very “aromatic” Wisconsin Limburger and Aged Brick.

New this year: visitors will not only be offered samples of the most odoriferous cheeses, Wisconsin Cheese Masters is going to be grilling delightful, smelly sandwiches.

“Last year we were very happy to see so many ‘stinkies’ coming to our tent to try Limburger and Aged Brick,” said Jim Pionkoski, Wisconsin Cheese Masters owner. “Many of them had heard about the cheeses for years but had never tasted them.”

Traditionally, Limburger is served on rye bread with raw onion. Grilling the pungent cheeses adds new complexity and will give visitors to the event a unique experience.

Pionkoski noted, “Some cheese experts say that every cheese course should include something old, something new, something stinky and something blue. This is everyone’s chance to try the most famous stinky cheeses.”

Pionkoski added, “We can’t open and sample Limburger and Aged Brick in our store because of the strong odor. So Stinkfest is the only chance for fans of these cheeses, or for the simply curious, to taste ‘The Stinkies.’”

Limburger is only made by Master Cheesemaker Myron Olson at Chalet Cheese Cooperative in Monroe, Wis. Master Cheesemaker Joe Widmer of Widmer’s Cheese Cellars in Theresa, Wis., carries on the four generation family tradition making Aged Wisconsin Brick cheese using his Great Grandfather’s original weighting bricks.
