Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos and Vietnam veteran Colonel Tim Lawrie are the featured speakers at the annual Veterans Day ceremony to be held at the Door Community Auditorium, Fish Creek at 10 am on Nov. 10. The ceremony is being held the day before Veterans Day (Nov. 11) due to parent-teacher conferences on the 11th.
All Vietnam veterans in attendance will be honored in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
After the ceremony, there will be a luncheon for veterans and their family members. Veterans unable to drive to Fish Creek can get a ride from Door County Trolley – which will leave from the parking lot by the veterans memorial in front of Sturgeon Bay City Hall at 8:30 am.
A ceremony for Washington Island will be held at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center at 10:30 am on Friday, Nov. 11. Four veterans will introduce and speak about four prominent islanders who served their country during the past century.
At the Senior Center in Sturgeon Bay, there will be a Veterans Day Celebration at 12:15 pm on Nov. 11. Salad will be served at 11 am and lunch at noon. Vietnam veteran Ken Pollock will play patriotic music and Scott McFarlane, head of the county’s Veterans Services office, will be the speaker.
The Peninsula Symphonic Band will present its annual Veterans Day concert at 7 pm on Monday, Nov. 7, at Prince of Peace Church in Sturgeon Bay.
The USAF Band of Mid-America’s Starlifter group will present a free concert at 7 pm on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Door Community Auditorium, Fish Creek. This is a free event and no tickets are required.
