Fresh Blood for Dark Songs

For this year’s Dark Songs, hosted by The Holiday Music Motel, 11 “fresh blood” additions will join the veteran ranks of this annual songwriting event. While five of these newcomers have participated in similar events, such as Steel Bridge Songfest and Love On Holiday, the other six participants will experience their first time collaboratively writing, recording and performing in one of the motel’s fully immersive weeklong songwriting marathons.

Christa Ebert (AKA Uno Lady) from Cleveland will be an eclectic addition with her looping talents and vocal abilities, while Julia McConahay will provide strong vocals and a wide range of violin stylings.

Local Sturgeon Bay transplants John Orlock and Marcus Trana are also first-time participants. Orlock spent many years performing in the Chicago blues scene while Trana, of Nistebox fame, cut his teeth in the indie rock clubs of Oslo, Norway.

Other first time participants are Patrick Kelly, Jim Ohlschmidt, Sugar Ransom, Susan Howe and Barrett Tasky. All of these musicians possess a wide range of talents that will add greatly to the darkly themed “Dark Songs” stew.

Both Dark Songs shows will take place at Third Avenue Playhouse and are $5 per night. The Oct. 31 show immediately follows the playhouse’s screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 10:30 pm. The Nov. 1 performance begins at 7 pm. For more information visit HolidayMusicMotel.com/DarkSongs
