Fresh Plein Air

“Garden Angel” by Dorothy McDowell.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery will feature the artwork of Dorothy McDowell and Lauretta Kelly, July 26 – Aug. 1.

McDowell has been painting plein air in Door County for seven years, taking workshops at Peninsula School of Art with Shelby Keefe, John Poon, Susan Hale and Tom Nachreiner, and at The Clearing Folk School with Bonnie Paruch. McDowell paints with acrylics on canvas, using a tinted background tone that shows through to suggest light, texture, atmosphere, motion and freshness in a scene.

Kelly is passionate about drawing and painting from life and plein air painting. Her paintings have been exhibited in juried shows at the Hardy Gallery and at the Miller Art Museum in Door County. She also exhibited at the Link Gallery in Fish Creek where she won an Award of Excellence. Kelly is currently enrolled in the fine art department at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

The DCAL gallery, located in the rear courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, is open 11 am to 5 pm every day except Wednesday, and from 11 am to 3 pm on Sundays. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
