Glas Hamr stands as a classic Door County band with a knack for luring listeners of all ages off their bar stools and on the dance floor with their selection of rock songs that spans over three decades. Performing throughout the peninsula, Glas Hamr includes lead singer, guitarist, and trumpeter Brian Jilot; bassist and vocalist Brian Ashlswede; guitarist and vocalist Mike Grovogel; guitarist and vocalist Tony Peot; and drummer and vocalist Pete LeClair.

While preparing for a show at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay, Jilot took time to discuss the band’s history, future, and favorite football team.

How long has Glas Hamr been together? The original band was called Golden Boy in 1991–1995. In 1995 the band changed to Glass Hammer with new members. We took what turned out to be a 10-year break in 2001 with most members going off into other bands.

We got back together in 2011 with most of the original Golden Boy members but stayed with the Glass Hammer name, only it is now spelled Glas Hamr.

How did you all come together? I went to school with Pete LeClair and after we graduated, we formed a band with Brian Ahlswede.

I took a break from the band in 1993 and found my replacement in Mike Grovogel who became a member of then Golden Boy. When we reunited as Glass Hammer, both Mike and myself were together in the new band and stayed that way until present. Tony Peot was a sound technician for us in 2011 but then later he became a full member of the band.

What kind of music do you play? We are a cover band that plays a variety of classic party rock songs from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

Describe your band in one sentence? We always put everything we have into a show and more.

What is your favorite part about performing in Door County? The Door County atmosphere is always alive and energetic. The crowd is always out to have fun and they are a blast to entertain.

What’s next for the band? We would like to do a couple of originals but we will definitely keep rockin’ the Door County area. Look for us to branch out and do a few shows out of town next year to hopefully draw some followers back to Door County with us when we do local shows.

Anything else readers should know about Glas Hamr? We all love the Packers. And, we always want the crowd to come first so if there are songs you think we should be doing, let us know!

Glas Hamr will perform at Husby’s in Sister Bay on Oct. 5 at 9:30 pm and Draft Haus in Sturgeon Bay on Oct. 27 at 8:30 pm.
