From Pickles to Poetry

A shift from canning pickles to writing poetry would seem for some as quite the change in venue. Well, not so much for Sammi Rae, owner of Sammi Rae’s Homemade in Egg Harbor.

Sammi Rae has been creating delicious homemade pickles and canned goods for as long as she can remember. She brought her creations to Door County in 2009, opening Sammi Rae’s Homemade. Her retail store and business quickly established itself as the place to visit for homemade jams, jellies, salsa, pickles and pies. Visits to her store often turn to lively conversations as Sammi Rae loves to listen and share her own ideas. It didn’t take long for Sammi Rae to become a local favorite, soon dubbed “The Pickle Lady” by her customers.

And now, Sammi Rae is ready to give back to others and offers her insight on laughter, love and emotion in her new book, The Door in Motion. She combines her poetry with photography in such a way that readers can connect and identify with. Sammi Rae writes with purity of heart for a range of human experiences.

The transition from pickles to poetry is easy. According to Sammi Rae, “I am an old-fashioned farm girl with the need to feed people. It’s just who I am.”
