FSA Announces Assistance Programs

USDA Wisconsin Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Brad Pfaff recently announced orchardists and nursery tree growers who experienced losses from natural disasters that occurred on or after Oct. 1, 2011, can now sign up for the Tree Assistance Program (TAP).

TAP provides financial assistance to qualifying orchardists and nursery tree growers to replant or rehabilitate eligible trees, bushes and vines damaged by natural disasters. To qualify for TAP, orchardists must suffer a qualifying tree, bush or vine loss in excess of 15 percent mortality from an eligible natural disaster.

Also, farmers and ranchers can sign-up for disaster assistance programs, reestablished and strengthened by the 2014 Farm Bill. Enrollment began April 15 for producers with losses covered by the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) and the Tree Assistance Program (TAP) in 2011, when the programs expired, through 2014. Producers are encouraged to contact their county office ahead of time to schedule an appointment. For more information call 920.743.3595.
