Fun, Food, and Fireworks

Naval swivel gun demonstration by the Door County Maritime Museum.

The Door County Maritime Museum will join the Gills Rock Advancement Association in celebrating Independence Day with fun, food, fireworks and the roar of cannon fire. In honor of the Nation’s 236th birthday, the museum’s facility in Gills Rock will extend its hours until 7 pm on July 4. The later closing will enable Gills Rock visitors to enjoy the museum’s exhibits as they await the boat regatta and fireworks.

In addition to the extended museum hours, the maritime museum and Door County North will host kid’s activities and black powder cannon demonstrations on the museum grounds beginning at 4 pm.

Volunteers from the maritime museum and Gills Rock Advancement Association will serve fresh whitefish sandwiches near the waterfront beginning at 5 pm. Other venders will be onsite to provide additional food and beverage options along with live music. The Boat Regatta kicks-off at 7 pm with fireworks to follow at dusk.

Most activities take place on or near the waterfront adjacent to the Island Clipper boat docks and Shoreline Resort in the heart of Gills Rock. The Door County Maritime Museum is located nearby at 12724 Wisconsin Bay Road.
