Gallagher Thanks Sturgeon Bay Fire Department

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) visited the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department last Friday to thank its members for their work in putting out the Feb. 1 fire aboard the MV Roger Blough, a freighter ship docked for the winter at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding. Gallagher presented the department with a copy of an entry he had made in the Congressional Record – the document that reflects the official proceedings of Congress – commemorating their efforts.

The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department battled the fire with the assistance of numerous Door County fire departments and U.S. Coast Guard personnel. Only one minor injury occurred; damage to the ship was minimal; and there was no cargo on board. Because of the firefighters’ efforts, 70,000 gallons of fuel oil were not discharged.

The owner of the Blough enacted its Vessel Response Plan and notified its Oil Spill Removal Organization in case there is any fallout from the fire.
