Stained glass piece by Al Johnson.

When Cynthia and Al Johnson retired to Baileys Harbor in 2000 they embarked on a new venture: art.

“We didn’t know that art was going to be such a central part of our lives when we moved here,” said Cynthia.

The Johnsons’ works will be on display at the Unitarian Universalist Gallery, Ephraim, July 4 – 26. There will be a reception and gallery talk on July 6 at 4 pm. Refreshments will be served.

The couple attributes much of their success as artists to The Peninsula School of Art, where both attend classes and volunteer. Cynthia has served on the Gallery Committee for seven years. Al is completing nine years on the Board of Directors. Both have exhibited their work in various art venues throughout Door County.

Cynthia explores a variety of medias, from pastels to acrylics to oils to mixed media to photography, while Al specializes in silver jewelry, ceramics, stained glass, and sculpture.

The UU Gallery is located at 10341 Highway 42, Ephraim and is open to visitors on Sundays from 11 am – 12:15 pm and on Mondays from 1 – 3 pm.
