“Gardens and Scarecrows” Presentation

Roy Swanson will show a slideshow presentation at Base Camp Coffee Bar on June 2 at 6:30 pm. The slide show, “Gardens and Scarecrows,” is the story of Swanson’s time spent as the coordinator of the Community Garden Program for the city of San Francisco, California.

It was in the San Francisco Community Garden Program that Swanson first encountered the power and joy of garden art. The gardens were sponsored by the San Francisco Art Commission, and scarecrows were built as garden spirits that evoke the presence of goodwill, abundance and beauty in gardens.

Swanson has lived in Door County for 15 years and is employed as a semi-retired ornamental flower gardener at Orchard Country Winery & Market in Fish Creek. The slideshow is presented in conjunction with a scarecrow contest sponsored by the Sister Bay Historical Society at the Corner of The Past on Hwy 57 (Saturday Farmers Market Location) on July 7 – 10.

Base Camp Coffee Bar is located below Ecology Sports, 10904 Highway 42, north of Sister Bay. For more information call 920.854.7894.
