Geologist, Microbiologist Featured at Next LWV Speaker Series

On April 28, University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh Geology Professor Maureen Muldoon and USDA Agricultural Researcher Mark Borchardt will be the keynote speakers at the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Door County Eileen Bohn Speaker Series event. Beginning at 9 am in the Sturgeon Bay High School Commons, both will share their understanding of the unique geology of the Door Peninsula and explain what their years of research in the area show about how human and animal waste can endanger groundwater.

A local panel consisting of Door County Corporation Council Grant Thomas, Assistant County Sanitarian Chris Olson, and County Conservationist Erin Hanson will explain what efforts have taken place in the county to protect groundwater from contamination by both human and animal wastes. These efforts have included sanitary surveys of private onsite wastewater treatment systems, supervision of agricultural nutrient management plans, and code enforcement.

After the panel discussion there will be time for questions. The event will conclude at noon. For more information visit leagueofwomenvotersdoorcounty.org.
