George Sawyn, the guitarist who has accompanied Door County singers live and on their CDs for the past four years, has been quietly producing his own instrumental CDs. The latest, Comfort Zone, was released in May.
Unlike his last CD, made up of his original tunes, Comfort Zone contains some of Sawyn’s all-time favorites from other artists, presented in an improvisational, light jazz style. They include classics like “Somewhere My Love,” “Autumn Leaves,” “And I Love Her,” and “Come Away With Me.”
“We all have places and situations in which we are relaxed, at home…comfortable. As a musician, I have mine, and this CD puts me right in my favorite neighborhoods,” Sawyn said. His personal comfort zones include not only these songs, but also the instruments he used – traditional classical guitar and the electric archtop jazz guitar – as well as his recording environment. Sawyn recorded this CD entirely at home on his Macintosh, using Apple’s GarageBand software.
“My goal was to create music with a very relaxed atmosphere, but interesting enough to listen to in the foreground as well,” Sawyn said.
