Getting Thrifty in the Door

I got that craving for something new (or new to me) and was looking for a good deal. I swung into Julie’s Upscale Resale in Sister Bay and found a whole lot of nearly-new goodies that fit my description.

“People bring us things from all over the country. We have over 900 consigners and most of them have come to us by word of mouth. It’s wonderful, and it means we have a wide variety of things,” owner Julie Diltz said.

From clothes and shoes to antique furniture, or Mrs. Meyer’s household cleaning products, there’s a whole lot to choose from. Meandering around the store, a hip purse made from recycled material with a seatbelt for a buckle caught my eye. Next, a row of gently-used leather cowboy boots.

“I’ve been here for five years, and this has been our biggest year,” Diltz said. “We’ve gotten a lot of antiques in the last two years. We keep our prices low. People like a good deal, they’re looking to get the most for their money.”

For those who are relatively new to resale shopping, Julie’s makes for a good introduction. Things aren’t spread helter-skelter or left in piles for people to sift through. Things are carefully organized and skillfully displayed.

The best part? Products spend no longer than 60 days in the resale shop. After that, Diltz donates to Feed My People. Things are constantly moving through her inventory, so if you don’t find something one day, you might well find your prize the next.

Julie’s Upscale Resale is located at 2350 Maple Drive in Sister Bay. Check out their Facebook page for a sneak preview of what’s currently available in the store, or call 920.421.0770 for more information.
