Gibraltar and Sevastopol Students Team Up to Fundraise for DOOR CANcer

Gibraltar GBAY/DECA and Sevastopol Student Council teamed up to raise funds last fall during the Jacksonport Thanksgiving Day Parade. Students canvassed area businesses for donations for their raffle and collected donations along the parade route. Traditionally the parade committee selects one individual in the community to raise funds for, but, with several needs in the community, the group chose DOOR CANcer, Inc. as their cause. The organization was presented with a check for $2,378.73 raised at the parade. An additional $200 was used for the Adopt a Family program to purchase Christmas gifts for a local family in need.

DOOR CANcer, Inc. received a second check from the Gibraltar Entrepreneurship Class. The student business venture, GibPoCo, raised $223 for DOOR CANcer via their Slim Jim Poker Tournament venture.

Twenty-eight area businesses, people and school personnel were recognized at the May 18 Appreciation Breakfast for their contributions to the Gibraltar Marketing and Business Education program and student DECA success. Adviser Mary Witteborg contributes the strength of the program to the collaboration of school, community and business partnerships.
