Gibraltar Boys Finish Historic Season

Though Gibraltar’s boys season came to a disappointing end with a two-point loss in the WIAA Regional Final March 6, the season was one of historic achievement at the school. The Vikings finished with 17 victories, the second most in school history, and notched several individual achievements. The team’s 38 victories over the past three seasons are more than Gibraltar boys basketball posted in the entire decade of the 1980s or 1990s.

Gibraltar’s Sam Forkert dunks in a regional semifinal victory over Lena March 4 as Tanner Biwer (40) looks on.

Sam Forkert passed Paul Nelson for 2nd place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 873 career points (15th in Door County history). Forkert was also named 1st Team All-Conference, Gibraltar’s first such honoree since Nelson in 1999.

Teammate Tom Sawyer, on the strength of a late-season scoring binge, squeaked past Doug Curzon to move into fourth place on Gibraltar’s career scoring list, with 793 (Curzon had 791). That puts Sawyer 25th in county history. Sawyer was named 2nd Team All-Conference.

Southern Door’s Alex Tassoul and Jon Baudhuin were also named to the All-Conference 2nd Team.
