Northern Door County, as a tourism economy, relies on strong hospitality and lodging management skills. Sophomores at Gibraltar High School demonstrated their skills in these areas Jan. 13 at the Northeast Wisconsin DECA District Competitions at Bayport High School. Competitors take a 100 question exam and role play two business scenarios. The top four competitors with the greatest combined three scores earn Series Awards. Students only have 10 minutes to read a role play scenario and prepare a presentation for the judge covering five performance standards.
Connor Duffy earned Second Place in the Principles of Hospitality Series, medaling in the Hospitality Cluster Exam and the Customer Relations Role Play. Brandon Stillman earned Third Place in the Hotel and Lodging Management Series, medaling in the Hospitality Cluster Exam and the Product/Service Management Role Play. Other Gibraltar competitors engaged in the Travel and Tourism Series and the Buying and Merchandising Series gaining knowledge and skills in marketing and management, also. Students move on to compete at the State Career Development Conference the first week in March.
Adviser Mary Witteborg applauds all the competing students for their commitment and knows they will continue to thrive and support the local economy.
