Gibraltar Grad Scores Pair of Goals for UWGB Phoenix

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior, and Gibraltar High School graduate, Devan Schultz struck twice on Sept. 13 for Green Bay, collecting both of the Phoenix’s goals in the contest and turning in the first two of the young season for the midfielder. The Phoenix (2-5-0) fought hard at Aldo Santaga Stadium, but was overcome 4-2 by a strong Eastern Washington team.

It took almost no time for the first strike from either team to be turned in, as Schultz collected her first score of the night via her head at the 3:02 mark, giving Green Bay an early 1-0 lead.

The match remained scoreless for more than 25 minutes following the Schultz header, but EWU’s (5-1-1) Chloe Williams turned in back-to-back goals in the 30th and 35th minute to collect the Eagles’ first lead of the night.

After the start of the second period, the Eagles’ rattled off their third unanswered goal, forcing the Phoenix to play from a two-goal deficit for the fourth time this season.

The second Green Bay goal came in the 77th minute after Sydney Born sent the ball into the box from 40 yards out, with Heidi Hartmann then jumping over the defenders to set up Schultz for her second header of the day, bringing the Phoenix within one goal with 13 minutes to play.

The Eagles responded to Schultz’s second goal of the game with a header of their own to extend their lead to two goals for the second time on the night.

Schultz finished the game with two shots on the day, both of which found their way into the net for scoring strikes. The Green Bay women’s squad will now turn its attention to its next contest, its Horizon League opener against Detroit on Sept. 18 at 2 pm.
