Gibraltar High School Hosts Blood Drive and Be The Match Recruitment

Gibraltar High School will host a Red Cross Blood Drive and Be The Match donor recruitment at Door Community Auditorium (DCA) on Nov. 14. The blood drive will be held from 9 am to 2 pm. Due to time and scheduling constraints, an appointment to donate is needed. Leave a message at 920.868.3284, ext. 244. Clearly state your name, phone number and best time of day to donate. A student council member will return your call to confirm donor time. Donors should drink plenty of water, get at least eight hours of sleep the night before, and eat iron-rich foods before the donation. Visit redcrossblood.org to register online, get more details, or to see if you are eligible.

In addition to the blood drive, there will be a Be The Match registration in the DCA. Learn more at bethematch.org or stop by the Be The Match registration booth any time during the blood drive. To register, all it takes is a simple cheek swab to collect DNA. No blood draw required. If selected as a donor, the procedure in most cases is a stem cell extraction which can take about four hours.

Locally, Collin Duffy, a sophomore at Gibraltar, is battling a very rare, life-threatening blood disease called Aplastic Anemia. He may need a bone marrow transplant and is still looking for a perfect match. Be a hero and register today. Someone like Collin may be waiting for you.
