Gibraltar Historical Association Presents “Our Town Airport”

The Gibraltar Historical Association will continue its monthly historic talk’s series with a program titled, “Our Town Airport.” The program will be held on July 14 at 7 pm at the Old Town Hall, located on the corner of Maple and Spruce Streets in Fish Creek.

The presenter will be Myrvin Somerhalder, long time Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport Commission member and Gibraltar Town Board member. He has researched the history of this small rural airport, which brought aviation to northern Door County in 1944. Today the economic impact of this airport is over $400,000 and provides a few jobs for local residents.

Members of the Friends of the Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport will share aerial photos that have been taken over the past decades. The public is invited to attend and share their stories relating to air travel to this peninsula destination.

The information and photos gathered for “Gibraltar Talks…Our Town Airport” will become part of the Gibraltar Historical Association’s permanent archives collection of Gibraltar area history.
