Gibraltar School District Makes Coaching Changes

The Gibraltar Area School Board began searching for a new varsity head basketball coach after Justin Burress resigned about a month after leading the Vikings to the state tournament. The board accepted the resignation with regret, and Superintendent Tina Van Meer said Burress resigned only from his coaching position, citing a busy family life as part of his reasoning.

Also this week, the board hired new varsity softball and baseball coaches, just as the season is beginning. The board approved employing former coach Cambria Mueller as the head softball coach and Kent Sitte as an assistant varsity baseball coach.

The board also approved Jennesa Johnston as a new varsity assistant softball coach. High school principal Jim DeBroux said she brings with her a great deal of enthusiasm for the game and has NCAA Division I playing experience. An injury cut short her softball career at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, from which she graduated.
