The Gibraltar Area School District will begin collaborating with local preschool and child care centers to provide a pilot 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) for the 2022-23 school year. To help shape the pilot program, the school district seeks community input through a survey that’s available at facebook.com/gibraltarareaschooldistrict.
District leaders believe that a community approach to 4K will help the school district and other early-education providers to draw and build upon all facets of the community’s early-education and care system. 4K programs are funded the same way as other public school grade levels, with no private tuition paid.
Studies have demonstrated that children in programs such as 4K experience higher levels of school achievement and rates of completion and have less need for remedial services. They also assist in developing academic, language, social and emotional skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond.
