Gibraltar, Sevastopol Athletics Shine

Gibraltar/ Sevastopol Soccer Just Misses State Birth

The Gibraltar/Sevastopol soccer team came up one overtime short of its first trip to the state tournament. The Vikings, fresh off a conference championship, rolled into the sectional final before falling to Kohler 2 – 1 in overtime Oct. 24 at Wrightstown.

Gibraltar Tastes Playoff Football

The two – Gibraltar Football and playoffs – never went together until this year.

Gibraltar’s football team advanced to the state playoffs for the first time in school history when they beat Reedsville in the final game of the regular season. The Vikings drew top-seeded Shiocton in the first round. Though Gibraltar was no match for powerful Shiocton, losing 35 – 0, they did post the school’s first .500 record in football in over a quarter century.

Sevastopol Continues Cross-Country Excellence

Sevastopol’s cross-country programs continued to shine. Jimmy Heroux won the boys individual race and led the Pioneers to the team title in Colburn Park. Teammate Cole Vanderleest finished second. On the girl’s side, Sevastopol’s Sara Hasenjager won the individual race. The state meet is Saturday, October 31 at Wisconsin Rapids.
