Gibraltar Sixth Graders Share Poetry at Slam

This month, Gibraltar School’s sixth graders are holding a poetry slam fundraiser in the Door Community Auditorium on May 27, 2:30 – 4:30 pm. For the past couple weeks, the sixth graders have been studying teen activism and recently began to write different forms of poetry. Now, at the end of this unit, they would like to share their finished poetry with the public at the upcoming poetry slam. Live music will be provided by Matthew Burress, as well as some music written by our the sixth graders.

Gibraltar’s sixth graders have hosted their poetry slam for three years and have raised about $1,000 each year. The donations will go to Special Olympics of Wisconsin. Special Olympics is devoted to giving children and adults with disabilities a chance to participate in and enjoy certain sports. To donate to Special Olympics of Wisconsin, make a check out to Special Olympics Wisconsin and mail it to Gibraltar High School – Attention 6th Grade, 3924 Hwy. 42, Fish Creek, WI 54212, or attend the poetry slam.

To attend the poetry slam, adult admission is $5 and all children and students are free. It is an open house event, everyone is welcome.

The sixth graders thank the following businesses for their donations: Blue Horse Beach Cafe, Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant, The Piggly Wiggly, Alexander’s, Cornerstone Pub, Little Sweden Resort, Apple Creek Resort, Door County Trolley, Sweetie Pies, Door County Ice Cream Factory, Sister Bay Craft Shop, Aqualand Campground, Main Street Market and Base Camp.
