Gibraltar Student Poets Featured in Dickinson Poetry Series

On Feb. 8, seven Gibraltar High School students were featured at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s Dickinson Poetry Series.

The Emily Dickinson Poetry Series takes place on the second Wednesday of the month throughout the year.

Once a year, organizer Chuck Lauter seeks young poets from the community who wish to share their writing with Northern Door. This year Gibraltar English teacher Lauren Bremer worked with seven juniors and seniors who participated and shared a variety of poems. The poets featured included Brandon Bogenschutz, Hope Bogenschutz, Katelaine Buske, Anya Kopischke, Alicia Mickelson, Taylor Syers, and Jasper Whalen. Kopischke was featured in 2010 and Brandon Bogenschutz was featured in 2011.

The student-poets each took a turn reading their poetry that spanned the realms of nature, love (both lost and found), politics, humanity, angst, passion, and epiphanies. Community members in attendance all seemed to agree that the seven poets were some of the most talented and poised readers they had heard.

The students, along with the other poets in the series, will be featured in a volume of poetry that will be available for purchase in April.
