Gibraltar Talks Event Highlights Cornils Stables

The Gibraltar Historical Association’s next Gibraltar Talks event will feature a presentation by Herb Hardt titled “Cornils Riding Stables” on Aug. 7, 7 pm, at the Old Gibraltar Town Hall, 4176 Maple St.

From the 1920s until the 1970s, the Cornils Riding Stables were part of Fish Creek, and Hardt will share his memories of the equestrian facility, which is located across from Peninsula State Park and remains in the family.

The property once comprised 120 acres, but Thad Cornils gave up 20 acres during the park’s formation. His hand-cut horse trails are still used today for skiing and snowmobiling, and Hardt will talk about the connections with the park, how it intertwines with Camp Meenahga’s history, and the equestrian events in Fish Creek’s past.
