Gibraltar Talks Series Features Eagle Bluff Lighthouse

Gibraltar Talks 2015 presents “Eagle Bluff Lighthouse & Duclan Family Memories” on July 16 at 7 pm at the Old Town Hall in Fish Creek.

In October 1868, the lamp at Eagle Bluff Lighthouse was turned on for the first time, and the beam of light has shone brightly for the past 147 years. Join Patti Podgers and Myrv Somerhalder in a historical walk through the rich, vibrant history of the lighthouse on the bluff in Peninsula State Park. It is the story of the keepers’ courage and endurance, as well as the families who work beside them.

Patti Podgers will go in-depth regarding Captain William Duclon serving 35 years as the keeper of Eagle Bluff, raising seven sons and providing a great sense of humor to all who met his acquaintance. The Duclon family’s history has been well documented. Family photos and stories will be shared during the presentation.

Myrv Somerhalder will share what Fish Creek was like prior to the lighthouse and share some interesting historic information he has discovered while researching roads and navigation.

Light refreshments will be served, donations are welcome and postcards, raffle tickets and DVDs will be for sale. For more information email [email protected], call 920.559.6234, or find the Gibraltar Historical Association on Facebook.
