The Gibraltar Historical Association’s monthly historic talk series will begin on Tuesday evening, May 12 at 7:30 pm at the Old Town Hall located on the corner of Maple and Spruce Streets in Fish Creek.

Nancy Waldo Fisher, great-grandauther of C. Alexander and Alice Lundberg, will be the presenter for the evening, and she will talk about the Lundberg’s lives and influences in the Fish Creek area at the turn of the century.

Alex came to Fish Creek at the age of thirteen. He learned the cooper’s trade and did some sailing on the lakes. At about the age of 24 Alexander became interested in merchandising and established a store at Juddville Bay. Years later Lundberg decided to move his business into Fish Creek where growing tourism and the building trade meant more money was to be made. Lundberg sold the Juddville store to Myron Stevens and built the new one on land originally filed on by Increase Claflin’s son Charles in 1855. The new store was built in 1881 becoming Fish Creek’s first general merchandise and grocery store. After establishing the store he married Alice Schuyler, daughter of an early Door County family. Today this same store building is occupied by the On Deck Clothing Company.

The public is welcome to attend all monthly Gibraltar Talks programs and events throughout 2009. These programs are free and light refreshments are served.
