Notes from the Grove: Gibraltar Teacher Nancy Akerly Retires

• Former students and friends will gather to thank “Ms. A,” Nancy Akerly, at the Sister Bay Village Hall June 27 from 2 – 5 pm. Akerly taught in the Gibraltar School District for 39 years, going back to the old Sister Bay School.

• The Liberty Grove town board is waiting for a counter offer on its offers to purchase shoreline properties in Gills Rock. No purchase can be completed without the approval of the town electorate. Town Chairman John Lowry said public informational sessions will be held in July or August before any vote to purchase property.

• Jacksonport’s Community Marketing Fund Committee will meet June 28 at 6:30 pm at the Jacksonport Town Hall. Mike Jarman of Boettcher Communications will present an upgraded website and take comments, suggestions and corrections.

• Gibraltar school will host the Viking Basketball Boot Camp June 22 – 24 for boys and girls entering grades 4 – 8. The camp runs from 8:30 – 11:30 am each day and the $35 fee includes personal instruction and a camp t-shirt.
