Gibraltar Thanks Bong for Help, Hires Choir Teacher

A local pianist and accompanist for Gibraltar Area School singers and musicians stepped up this past fall and winter to fill an opening at the high school and middle school level.

Sara Bong’s efforts and work as secondary-school choir teacher earned praise and expressions of gratitude from the school board and high school principal, James DeBroux.

On Jan. 22, the board accepted Bong’s resignation from the teaching portion of her work, effective Feb. 5, and the school approved the hiring of Mark Lorentz as Secondary Choir teacher.

Mark Lorentz. Submitted.

DeBroux said Lorentz has extensive experience working with students ages 11-18 in camps, Boys & Girls Club and two positions student-teaching while finishing his studies at Lawrence University.

In addition, he gained experience conducting in college and served as a church liturgical director, DeBroux said.
