Gibraltar Township Features “Talking Tombstones” and “A House In Mourning”

Gibraltar Township continues to celebrate its year round heritage with August events which focus on the people and the customs from the past.

“Talking Tombstones” will take place on Tuesday, August 3 from 10 am – noon at Blossomburg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park. Friends of Peninsula State Park and the Gibraltar Historical Association will offer a day when costumed folks will be grave side to offer historical recollections of various community members who were interred in Blossomburg Cemetery. Donations will be accepted.

After visiting Blossomburg Cemetery, participants are welcome to journey to the Historic Noble House located in Noble Square in Fish Creek to experience “A House In Mourning.” From August through October a Victorian Home Funeral display will be shown, featuring artifacts and explaining the customs of Victorian home funerals.

Historic Noble House is open for guided tours from noon – 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.
