Gibraltar’s Forkert, Sawyer Selected for State All-Star Games

Gibraltar’s Sam Forkert and Tom Sawyer have been selected to play in Wisconsin high school all-star games this summer.

Forkert has been selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 4 All-Star Game June 19 in Madison at the University of Wisconsin Field House.

Forkert was a first-team all-conference selection in the Packerland Conference this year. The senior finished third in the conference in scoring with 16.2 points per game and first in rebounding with 9.6 rebounds per game while leading the Vikings to a 17 – 7 record. Forkert finished his career as the school’s second all-time leading scorer, putting him 16th on Door County’s all-time scoring list with 873 points.

“We’re thrilled to have Sam represent our program in competition with the best players in the state,” said Gibraltar basketball coach Myles Dannhausen.

Sawyer has been selected to play in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game. That game will be played July 17 at J.J. Keeler Field at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.

Sawyer, a senior quarterback for the Vikings, threw for 1,746 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He also rushed for 923 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was selected to the Olympian/ Packerland Conference small division first-team all-conference team at quarterback and defensive back, and led Gibraltar to its first ever playoff appearance.

To play in the games, each athlete is asked to raise money for a specific charity. Sawyer is raising funds for the Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin, while Forkert is fund raising for Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Fund (MACC Fund). Forkert and Sawyer will host a joint fundraiser at Husby’s Food and Spirits in Sister Bay April 25. Husby’s will donate 20 percent of sales from 11:30 am – 5 pm that day as Forkert and Sawyer bus tables, wash dishes, and help serve customers.
