This November, Gibraltar will be performing in front of 60 – 80 schools for the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association’s (WHSFA) showcase performance. The performance is a part of the 2010 One Act Festival, and will take place at the Pickard Auditorium in Neenah, Wis.

Lizz Thomas, director of Seussical, attended the State One Act competition and watched the showcase performances for the past six years. Thomas and her husband, Kurt, felt Seussical was Gibraltar’s golden ticket for a chance to perform.

“With great audience feedback, three standing ovations, and a cast that did not want the show to end, I decided to throw caution to the wind and apply,” Thomas said in an email.

WHSFA made the decision on August 15. When the news finally arrived, there was a celebration among the cast and crew involved.

Now for the task of remounting the show.

“Some of the challenges include very busy students fitting in rehearsals when possible, replacing some roles, sprucing up costumes, polishing choreography, fine-tuning music, and keeping everyone excited about this fantastic opportunity,” Thomas said.

She continued, “We will be performing a matinee and an evening show. This proposes a challenge because the auditorium is twice the size of ours and there are only a few hours for set-up, orientation and cue to cue before our first performance. All these challenges notwithstanding, this is a momentous event for our school, our actors, our creative team, and our community.”
