Poetry Reading July 16

Award-winning poets and Write On, Door County writers-in-residence April Gibson, Roy Guzmán and Kathryn Kysar will read their work on July 16, 6:30 pm. The free reading will take place at ARTicipation Studio and Gallery, 10 E. Oak St. in Sturgeon Bay.

A reception will follow the reading. The poets’ books will be available for sale and signing, and the writers will take questions from audience members.

Gibson wrote The Span of a Small Forever, recently published by HarperCollins. In the collection, the poet shares the daily frustrations and joys of being a Black woman living with chronic illness, using breathtaking lyricism and heart-piercing vulnerability.

Guzmán is a Honduran poet and scholar. Their debut collection, Catrachos, was a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the Minnesota Book Award. Part immigration narrative, part elegy and part queer coming-of-age story, these unflinching poems reach across borders – between countries and between life and death.

Kysar wrote two collections of poetry and edited an anthology of prose. Her collection Pretend the World confronts our false sense of safety and explores the inequities and fissures in women’s lives.
