Gills Rock Informational Session Aug. 31

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The first “Informational Session” on the possible purchase of three shore properties in Gills Rock was attended by approximately 100 people. Town attorney Jack Bruce and town financial consultant Brad Viegut were present to explain the terms of the contract and the financial aspects of the purchases. A number of questions were raised and the board will have answers to those questions at the next session, which is scheduled for August 31.

• The Town Board has asked attorney Bruce to render his decision regarding who may vote on the Gills Rock purchases on September 8. The board will make its determination after discussing the Wisconsin Towns Association input and that of attorney Bruce. A notice will be posted on the town’s website as well as at the next informational session.

• The Town Board has authorized the Waterfront Committee to proceed with investigating construction, permitting and funding for a possible public stairway access to Death’s Door via Port Des Mort’s Town Park. The committee has been working with the Neptune Dive Club.

• Additional signage will be placed on Garrett Bay Road in an attempt to slow vehicles entering and leaving Ellison Bay. The Highway Committee had recommended placing stop signs at Garrett Bay Road and Old School Road. Due to concerns about the difficulty of snow plowing with a four-way stop signage will be tried.

• The Town Board will hear from a Rustic Roads authority at their September 15 meeting. Residents have presented a petition to designate Isle View Road, Northern Door Road, and Skaugum Road as Rustic Roads.

• Following a public informational on Monday August 23 on the bike path study currently underway in the town, the Bike Path Steering Committee listened to a presentation by Kevin Luecke, Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin. He spoke of the importance of the plan and the role of the Steering Committee.

• A reminder the second Informational Session on Gills Rock is August 31 at 7 pm in the Town Hall and the Fall Primary Election is scheduled for September 14.
