Girls Hoops Season Ends for Pioneers

After being tied 16-16 at halftime Thursday, the Sevastopol girls basketball team lost for only the second time this season in the WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinals at Crivitz.

The No. 2-seeded Pioneers fell to No. 1-seeded Wabeno/Laona, 44-29.

Bailey Rikkola led Sevastopol 12 points.

The Rebels, who advance to Saturday’s sectional title game in Rhinelander to face Edgar, were led by Malerie Krawze with 12 points.

The Pioneers, winners of both a regional title and the Packerland Conference championship, finished the season 25-2 overall.

Sevastopol will be graduating two seniors – Rikkola, the team’s top scorer who exceeded 1,000 career points this season, and post player Reese Schauske.
