Horseshoe Bay Farms was recently placed on the National and State Register of Historic Communities. To commemorate this distinction, the Door County Historical Society will sponsor a dinner and presentation on July 23.
The farm has a 130-year history, including once being a world-class Holstein breeding farm and having been the largest fruit producer and seasonal employer in the county.
The evolution of Horseshoe Bay Farms under the Murphy and Cowles families is a tale of entrepreneurial spirit, a deep love of the property and an entertaining cast of characters.
Glenn Timmerman, in the first known retelling of Horseshoe Bay Farms stories, will share his findings from the National Historic Register application process along with rare film footage and pictures.
The chicken dinner and presentation begins at 6:30 pm at the Horseshoe Bay Golf Club Clubhouse . The cost is $19 for Door County Historical Society members and $25 for non-members.
Seating is limited. For reservations, mail checks payable to the Door County Historical Society to PO Box 71, Sturgeon Bay.
