Golden LivingCenter-Dorchester and Aegis Therapies are celebrating Better Hearing and Speech month during May, and the center is also putting out a request for volunteers.

“Our team evaluates and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders that our residents experience,” said Michael Jones, executive director at Golden LivingCenter-Dorchester. “Speech therapy is important for the rehabilitation of neurological, hearing impairment and other communication disorders.”

Better Hearing and Speech month honors speech language pathologists who help people experiencing difficulty speaking, understanding or hearing.

Also, Golden LivingCenter-Dorchester needs volunteers to assist residents in a wide variety of areas including reading books and writing letters; playing cards and board games; participating in outdoor sports; helping with hair styling and nail care; and being a companion to people at end-of-life.
