Golf Tip: Stretching

PGA Tour competitors are dedicated to playing their absolute best, so it comes as no surprise that most of the tour players are spending as much time with their trainers as they do with their swing coaches. These golfers realize that if their body is not able to obtain the positions that their coach is asking of them, further improvement will be limited.

Golf specific fitness can play a huge role in increasing your range of motion, flexibility and strength – all of which combine to allow for improved swing position and more clubhead speed. First Coast Golf Academy in Door County recommends that you do these three stretches:

Neck rotation

– Stand tall then rotate your head as far left as possible

– Place the left hand to the right temple to gently assist the turn

– Repeat the rotation to the right

Wrist extension

– Loop the fingers of the left hand over the fingers of the right while keeping the thumb to the side

– Gently pull down on the palm of the right hand

– Repeat for the opposite side

Wrist flexion

– Stand tall and elevate the right arm in front of the body so that it is parallel to the ground with the palm down

– Loop the fingers of the left hand over the fingers of the right ,while leaving the thumb aside.

– Gently pull down on the back of the right hand

– Repeat for opposite side
