Good Evening Plays Saturday Afternoon Delight at Door County’s Glas

The band Good Evening was introduced to Door County in the same manner as many other bands in recent years – by participating in the Steel Bridge Song Fest

“It’s a great little town, very music-centric,” Alyssa Martinez said of Sturgeon Bay. One half of the duo that is Good Evening, she continued, “we played three venues in one day, and over the weekend we met a lot of musicians who we are still in contact with.”

The jam-packed schedule and musician-rich environment of Steel Bridge was a good fit for Chicago-based Martinez and Weston Rose, who formed Good Evening when it became obvious that Martinez could sing, play violin and even tap dance while keeping up with Rose’s guitar, ukulele, vocals and ambitious nightlife.

Martinez and Rose, both particular about words, found the name “Good Evening” appropriate, as it fit with their sound and image – “evening” also happens to be Rose’s favorite word in the English language.

The name is sure to ring true for their return to Door County at Glas’s “Saturday Afternoon Delight,” an all-ages show on Dec. 18 from 1 – 3 pm. While patrons are guaranteed to experience the talents of Martinez and Rose, featuring rich string arrangements and lush harmonies that deliver a dynamically diverse sound, they might also be in for additional musical treats.

“We’re not sure who else will be playing with us, [but] we play from a two to a five piece,” said Martinez. A few possibilities include David Rose (multi-instrumentalist), Davis Krieg (bass and tenor guitar), Matthew Sternberg (keyboard and harmonica) or perhaps some of their friends from Steel Bridge.
