Good Turnout at Zion Methodist Hymn Sing

Chairs had to be set up in the aisles at Zion United Methodist Church the evening of Sunday, July 14, when 75 people from 12 different denominations gathered for the first of two annual hymn sings at the church. The hymn sings were started in 1993 by then-pastor Rev. Don Heeringa. Although he retired eight years ago, Heeringa continues to lead the singing events at Zion. Participants in Sunday’s sing gave $1,235 in freewill offerings that will be divided between Northern Door Child Care Center and Help of Door County. Almost $20,000 has been raised for Door County agencies since the event began. The next hymn sing is Sept. 1.
