Ladybug Glass Studio & Gallery, 219 Steele St. in Algoma, is displaying the gourd and mixed-media work of De Pere artist Nancy Gezella throughout July. An opening reception will be held July 1, 5-8 pm, and July 2, 10 am – 4 pm.

Work by Nancy Gezella.

Gezella’s work begins in her garden, where she grows about half of the gourds she uses. Then she treats them to create surfaces for her artwork.

“An important aspect in achieving the richness found in my work is the layering of color and texture,” Gezella said. “The base of my work is either handmade paper or hard-shell gourds.”
