Granary Receives $100,000 Grant

The Door County Granary project has received a $100,000 grant from the David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, according to the Sturgeon Bay Historical Society Foundation. The Nelson Family Fund was established in 2018 to support historical preservation and education, among other initiatives.

“We were thrilled to receive this news,” said Nicole Matson, project manager for the Door County Granary. “Our application went through a vetting process, and it’s gratifying to know that such an esteemed foundation appreciates the historical significance of the granary and is willing to invest in its success.”

The Door County Granary received a similar gift from the 1923 Foundation earlier this year. To date, more than 125 individuals, businesses and foundations have contributed $2.3 million toward the project’s $4.5 million goal.
