Great Northern Hosts Fundraiser on Nov. 24

On Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24, Great Northern by Design will hold its annual Holiday Open House, 10 am – 4 pm. The public is invited for special holiday sales and refreshments. In the spirit of holiday giving, it will also be their annual fundraiser. A portion of the day’s sales will be donated.

This year’s fundraiser goes toward the Rohingya refugee crisis. More than 700,000 Rohingya fled a genocide in Myanmar, just in the past year. Currently, more than one million Rohingya languish in crowded, disease- and disaster-prone camps.

Felice Birmingham, the store-owner’s daughter and Fish Creek resident, worked and volunteered in the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh last spring. She will soon return to Bangladesh to start a journalistic project, interviewing the Rohingya, to promote healing through sharing their stories, and raise awareness to inspire change. Portions of the day’s sales will go toward Rohingya relief efforts in areas where it is needed most. People may also voluntarily donate to help fund the Rohingya project.

Birmingham will be available 1-3 pm to answer any questions and chat. To learn more about the project and crisis, visit facebook.com/LeTestimony.

Great Northern by Design is located at the Settlement Shops in Fish Creek. For more information call 920.868.4135.
